About Nicole

nicole2.jpgThis is Nicole’s mom telling the story.  Born in San Jose, weighing in at a mere 4 pounds herself, in the 70’s a time when premature babies did not fare as well as they do today, Nicole proved that she was a fighter from the beginning.  She never hesitated to plow forward.  Walking at 9 months old, dancing around her desk in first grade-while doing her work, she has always multi-tasked.  How fortunate that the children of Mukono are to benefit from the energy, passion and love that Nicole has brought to the world.

Raised in a household where Nicole lost her princess role at 7, life was not the life any of us expected.  She spent nights sleeping in the ER on hard rounded chairs waiting for a neighbor or Grandpa to pick her and Heather (her sister) up to go spend a restless night not knowing what the next day brought.  I do believe that much of Nicole’s compassion has come from living a life of “difference”, being exposed to children who have been marginalized and knowing that despite any difference, be it a physical difference, an intellectual or social need, or poverty, that all children deserve to be loved, cared for, fed and with shoes.

She is a remarkable woman who makes me incredibly proud.  I can’t wait to see her on Oprah some day. Yes, I have written to Oprah. :)

Nicole’s First Visit made a great Impression on her and those who read her letters.

Here is a video from that first trip.
